Oct. 4, 2012 – Robert Magee has begun to establish informal research ties with scholars in Paraguay.
In January 2012, Magee gave an invited lecture to the Instituto Latinoamericano de Salud Ocular and Fundación Visión, which are nonprofit organizations devoted to eye health in South America. In the talk, “La psicología de la cultura y su implicancia en la comunicación médico-paciente” [Cultural psychology and its implications for doctor-patient communication], Magee discussed ways in which cultural differences influence the effectiveness of communication between doctors and patients.
In August 2012, Magee gave an invited lecture to the International Research Congress in Asunción, Paraguay (2012), sponsored by the National Council on Science and Technology (CONACYT) and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Paraguay. In the talk, “Diferencias cognitivas entre las culturas: Psicología de la cultura y la comunicación” [Cognitive differences among cultures: Cultural psychology and communication], Magee outlined the need to extend research in cultural psychology to Latin America, which tends to be overlooked in the field.
As a result of the lectures, Magee has begun to explore opportunities for research with peers in Paraguay .
