June 12, 2012 – Faculty and graduate students attended the International Communication Association Conference (ICA) May 24-28, 2012, in Phoenix, AZ.
James D. Ivory, Bartosz Wojdynski and Yvonnes Chen, assistant professors, presented papers at ICA. Their scholarly work highlights collaborations with an interdisciplinary team and strong involvement from a number of graduate students. James D. Ivory also chaired a session on Game Studies Interest Group Top Papers and facilitated the Game Studies Interest Group Business Meeting.
This conference also gave former Communication Masters students an opportunity to present their collaborative work. For example, Frank Waddell, who will start his doctoral program at Penn State in Fall 2012, presented a paper on “White Man’s Virtual World: A Systematic Content Analysis of Gender and Race in Massively Multiplayer Online Games. ” Lauren Bayliss, who will start her doctoral program at University of Florida in Fall 2012, presented a paper on “Receptive to Bad Reception: Can Jerky Video Make Persuasive Messages More Effective?”
