Sept. 4, 2012 – The Department of Communication welcomed 134 new majors Aug. 27, the start of fall semester. 

New majors included 96 freshmen and 38 students transferring from other schools to Virginia Tech.

More than 80 percent of the new majors come from Virginia. Most of those have hometowns in Northern Virginia or Greater Richmond.

Seventy-five percent of the new majors are women. Thirteen percent represent minority groups.
