Oct. 23, 2012 – Beginning Fall 2012, a group of students began meeting with Dr. Marlene Preston, Director of Undergraduate Programs, to discuss issues related to the department. The students were recommended by various faculty and were invited to join. They have agreed to help develop guidelines for the group, interact with other students, and provide feedback about their experiences. They have already met with interested students at the Majors' Fair to discuss possibilities in COMM.
In an attempt to have representation from various options, pre-professional groups, and classes, new members are still being identified. Currently, the members are Carmen Fields, Danielle Logan, Brooke Martin, and Kelly McEvoy.
According to the student members,
As fellow Communication majors and Virginia Tech students, we strive to serve as direct liaisons between our fellow peers and respected faculty. It is our hope that students will feel comfortable approaching us with any concerns or questions that may arise regarding the communication department as a whole. Our primary goal is to ensure continued growth of the department and create increased awareness about the various programs available through the communication department. We will monitor any issues that may arise, as well as converse with administrators regarding solutions.
The advisory panel will discuss various departmental initiatives, accomplishments, and concerns. The first topic for fall -- Advising!
