For Incoming Students
| Information for Incoming Students |
 |
The incoming class in Communication is the largest to date with 145 new first year students. In addition, we'll welcome 28 transfer students. We look forward to meeting all of you at New Student Orientation in June (transfers) and July (freshmen). We'll be sure you leave with a full class schedule and answers to your questions. Until then, please review the information available at the primary new student orientation site.
Computer Requirement:
The Department of Communication requires the Apple Laptop. We do not require software beyond the University baseline requirement, but specific software may be required for classes beyond the first year. Students planning to do a double major should purchase a computer that also is compatible with the other department's specifications.
There are multiple packages available through the VT Bookstore (http://www.bookstore.vt.edu) to meet computer requirements for majors in Communication. The more basic packages are for students who plan a career in print journalism, the standard for careers in public relations or electronic journalism, and the high level for careers in film or video production.
If you have questions or concerns before orientation, please call Kimberly Dodson at 540-231-7942 or email kimberlydodson@vt.edu.
