The Department of Communication Scholarships
The Department of Communication awards the following scholarships on an annual basis. All scholarship applications are due on February 22, 2010 by 5 p.m. to Shanks 121. All scholarships are awarded through a competitive process and require a completed application, essay, and current resume.

MEGAN E. CHRISTENSON Memorial Scholarship (Amount: $1500.00) This scholarship honors the life of former Virginia Tech double major (French and Communication) Megan Christenson. The Christenson Scholarship eligibility requirements are: (1) Communication major; (2) Minimum 3.0 overall Grade Point Average; (3) Have completed at least 15 hours at Virginia Tech at the beginning of Fall semester, 2010; (4) Demonstration of financial need as determined by the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid. MO DONALDSON Memorial Scholarship (Amount: $1000.00)
This scholarship honors the life and career of Communication Alumnus Morris T. "Mo" Donaldson. The Donaldson Scholarship eligibility requirements are: (1) Communication major; (2) Minimum 3.0 overall Grade Point Average; (3) Sophomore standing in Fall 2010; (4) Demonstration of financial need as determined by the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid. MELINDA MARIE SOMERS Memorial Scholarship (Amount: $1000.00)
This scholarship honors the life of former Communication major Melinda Marie "Mindy" Somers. The Somers Scholarship eligibility requirements are: (1) Communication major; (2) Minimum 3.0 overall Grade Point Average; (3) Sophomore standing in Fall 2008;(4) Demonstration of financial need as determined by the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid. SYLVIA A. OWEN Memorial Scholarship (2 scholarships, Amount: $1000.00 each)
The Owen Scholarship eligibility requirements are: (1) Communication major; (2) Junior standing in Fall 2009; (3) Overall 3.0 GPA;(3) Demonstration of financial need as determined by the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid. The Owen scholarship recognizes academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, community service, and financial need. Application Form

DONALD F. MORRIS Memorial Scholarship (Amount: $500.00)
This scholarship honors the life of former Communication major Don Morris. The Morris Scholarship eligibility requirements include: (1) Communication major; (2) Senior standing in Fall 2010; (3) Genuine commitment to student-run video broadcasting on television or the internet; (4) Minimum overall GPA of 2.5. MATTHEW LEE HANCOCK Memorial Scholarship (Amount: $750.00)
This scholarship honors the life of former Communication Matt Hancock. The Hancock Scholarship eligibility requirements include: (1) Communication major; (2) Emphasis in journalism; (3) Senior standing in Fall 2010; (4) Minimum GPA of 2.0 (University graduation standard); (5) (4) Demonstration of financial need as determined by the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid Application Form

Communication majors participating in a Study Abroad experience are eligible for the Ewing Scholarships:

EDWIN J. and JANE M. EWING STUDY ABROAD Scholarship (2 scholarships, Amount: $1250.00 each)

Ewing Scholarship eligibility requirements are: (1) Communication major; (2) Completion of sophomore year (30 hours completed); (3) At least one semester of study remaining after returning from studying abroad; (4) Minumum 2.5 GPA overall and in Communication. Application Form

VIRGINIA ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship Grant Information and Application One scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and three scholarships in the amount of $500 each will be awarded to entering juniors and seniors at a college or university that offers undergraduate training in broadcasting related programs, such as mass media, communications, journalism, and advertising, or to a student enrolled in a professional broadcasting school certified by the Virginia Department of Education.

    BROADCAST EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS
    Scholarship Grant Information and Application One scholarship in the amount of $1,000 and three scholarships in the amount of BEA is the professional development association for professors, industry professionals and students involved in teaching and research related to radio, television, and other electronic media. BEA administers fourteen scholarships annually, to honor broadcasters and the electronic media profession. Scholarships range from $1,250.00 to $5000.00.
